Study Tips
The First and Only Melody
The melody of The First and Only uses the same three notes as the 'Ukulele Blues—A, B and C—but challenges you with a wider range of durations. Feel the beat in your body, count out loud as you play and don't neglect to give the whole notes at the end of each line the four beats they deserve!
Common Time
The First and Only has a capital C in place of the meter signature. C stands for common time and is another way of indicating 4/4 meter.
Listen to the Track
Before practicing the melody, get the sound of The First and Only in your ears by listening to the audio track.

Play the Melody Now!
Practice the melody of The First and Only until smooth. Read the music—don't just copy the finger movements in the video. Play along with the audio track or video to help shore up your rhythm.
Once the melody of The First and Only is securely under your fingers, work on playing the chords.
Chords
Down 2X Strum
Begin by memorizing the names and shapes of the new chords: Amin, F, G. The suffix "min" stands for minor. Once the chord changes are fluid, practice with the Down 2X Strum: strum downwards on beats 1 and 3. Watch the video for a full demonstration.
Down 2X Strum | Strum downwards on beats 1 and 3.
Once the piece feels confident, practice the melody and chords with the audio track. Rehearsing with the audio track simulates an ensemble setting and helps improve your accuracy and rhythm.
