Prelude 3 “Dark Waves” by Frary

Peter Kun Frary

.

For this solo, I offer my Prelude 3 “Dark Waves.” It lacks melody but, instead, expresses agitation through the texture and color of rapidly repeated arpeggios.

Triplet Rhythm

Dark Waves introduces a rhythmic pattern called the triplet. This pattern is represented by the number 3 placed above or below three beamed eighth notes. Triplet notation tells you to play the three eighth notes evenly (equally) across one beat. To illustrate rhythm, speak the three-syllable word “beau-ti-ful” evenly against a beat. This will help you understand how to create the triplet rhythm. Say it over and over: beau-ti-ful, beau-ti-ful, beau-ti-ful.

Arpeggio Fingering

Use the P-i-m arpeggio pattern to play the triplets in Dark Waves.
