Waltz in C Major by Carcassi

Peter Kun Frary

.

Next up, a petite waltz by Matteo Carcassi. It's both easy on the fingers and pleasing to the ears.

The waltz is a dance in triple meter, born as a folk dance in rural 18th-century Germany and Austria. Eventually, the waltz spread to Vienna and other cities, becoming all the rage throughout 19th-century Europe. Today, the waltz lives on as a ballroom dance. Due to its popularity, composers also used waltzes for works written for listening pleasure, not dancing, in homes and concert halls.

Waltz in C Major by Carcassi | Peter Kun Frary, guitarist

Italian guitarist-composer Matteo Carcassi (1792-1853) wrote hundreds of guitar solos, including many waltzes. His textbook, Méthode complète pour la Guitare, Op. 59, helped form the technical foundation of the modern classical guitar. You played two of his solos earlier in this textbook. Time for one more!
