This piece is written to suggest the sights and sounds of an amorous woodland creature, the faun. He's half man and half goat, and a lover, not a hater. The faun is known for his dreamy escapades with flute, wine, and wood nymphs.

This piece will test your command of the bass notes. Use your left-hand thumb to pluck the bass-heavy melody. For the chords, a simple strum on beats 1 and 4 is suggested.

6/4 Meter

Use of the 6/4 meter is the only new concept in The Faun's Return: count 1-2-3-4-5-6 with an accent on beats 1 and beat 4.

6/4 Meter Accent Pattern

6/4 meter

If counting to six is overwhelming, count 1-2-3 twice per measure. As your tempo increases to Allegro, you'll begin to feel the six beats group into two sets of three (like two big swinging beats).
