The iconic German composer, Ludwig van Beethoven, straddles the Classical and Romantic era, influencing generations of 19th century composers. We'll be auditioning Beethoven's piano and symphonic works, so block off a healthy chunk of listening time.

West Africa icon West African Kora

While Beethoven was active in Vienna, the Kora, a harp and lute hybrid, existed as a sophisticated performing tradition in West Africa, remaining popular to the present day.

The final topic of this unit focuses on the Korean gayageum (가야금). We’ll listen to both traditional and modern gayageum.

This test is worth a potential 100 points. Tests are untimed and may be retaken once if within the due date window. After submission, your score will be available in the Lamakū Grades tool.

alert Avoid Peak Hours

Due to high user volume on Lamakū and Google, test audio may not load during peak weekday use times of early mornings and evenings. From 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM and 9:00 PM to 10:30 PM are congested. Midday, late at night during weekdays and all weekend have little traffic. Avoid peak hours and nix needless frustration.

Next Semester, learn to play guitar in MUS 121D, Guitar 1, live and hands-on in the classroom. No Zoom! We start with the basics of technique, notation and music playing. You'll be strumming, picking melodies, soloing and jamming with other musicians in no time! 

Prefer 'ukulele instead of guitar? Enroll in MUS 121Z, 'Ukulele 1. Like guitar, it is a beginning course taught live and hands-on in the classroom.
