Miracle of the Chains (1705) by Giovanni Battista Parodi, 1674–1730.

Basílica de San Pietro in Vincoli was huge. Mammoth. Well, not as huge as the Pantheon or St. Peter's but way larger than my little 17 mm lens could take in. The only optic able to challenge this theological vista is a fisheye, and I wasn't packin' one. In hindsight I should have brought an EOS 5D and 16-35 2.8L USM.

Incidentally, viewing and photographing these beauties is hard on one's neck.
