I took this image while standing on the pier across from the Honolulu Zoo (Waikiki). It was late afternoon and the sun was blazing behind the surfer, making for difficult backlighting. This image worked because the sun was blocked by a big wave, resulting in beautiful light filtered through water. The ocean and board also served as a reflector or fill light for the front of the surfer.
