Basilica di Santa Maria del Fiore | Firenza, Italia |
The Basilica di Santa Maria del Fiore is Florence's main cathedral. The church was designed by Arnolfo di Cambio in 1296 but there have been many additions and redesigns over the centuries. It is renown for its massive dome designed by Filippo Brunelleschi and the elaborate green, pink and white marble panels. However the intricate façade depicted in my image is from Cambio's original design. Across from the Basilica lies the Battistero di San Giovanni (St John's Baptistery). The Battistero is home to the "Gates of Paradise" doors. |
I was only packing a 17mm lens and was unable to capture the entire Basilica at once. However the massive bell tower had ugly scaffolding near the bottom so it is just as well. EOS 40D and EF-s 17-55 2.8 IS USM |
