mar 10 | Week 8
The midterm is over and we are Baroque and on the street!
Baroque Era
Overview
The Baroque, 1600 to 1750, features composers—Bach, Handel and Vivaldi—you've heard or even played if you took piano lessons.
Our objectives in this unit are to:
- Understand characteristics of Baroque style.
- Explore the lives and times of Baroque musicians.
- Identify seminal works of the era.
- Take Quiz, Baroque 1, near the end of the week.
Start with an overview of cultural influences and style:
1. Social and Cultural Influences
Next, delve into the personalities and repertoire of the Baroque.
Antonio Vivaldi
We begin with Antonio Vivaldi (1678-1741), AKA, the Red Haired Priest and a foremost composer of the late Italian Baroque.
Johann Sebastian Bach
A gold plated LP of Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No. 2 is onboard the Voyager spacecraft. Why? The Brandenburg is among man's greatest artistic achievements. If Voyager encounters aliens, NASA hopes to leave a positive impression of humanity.
Quiz, Baroque 1
Finally, click Lamakū's Quizzes tool link and take a quiz over the Music In The Baroque Era unit, up to and including Bach.
Quiz, Baroque 1: 3/07 to 3/09
No Quiz Makeups
If you miss a quiz, game over. Don't ask for an exception—I won't respond since you already know the answer.
