Multnomah Falls and Benson Footbridge | Columbia River Gorge OR

Multnomah Falls is the Diamond Head Crater of Oregon. Every tourist comes here and takes this picture. There were dozens of postcards in the gift shop that looked like my image! I fought bus loads of Japanese tourists, screamming kids and elderly ladies to get to this vantage point. To avoid tourist heads bobbing in and out of the frame, I hung vicariously from the railing. If it's Summer, arrive early as parking at Multnomah Falls tends to be a real bugaboo.

Multnomah Falls is on the Oregon side of the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area, twenty minutes east of Troutdale via the Columbia River Gorge Scenic Highway. Or, if you don't mind running with the big dogs—truckers and Winnebagos—you can brave Interstate 84 East.
