Bell Tower | Port Townsend WA

Each time I visit Port Townsend, I take a picture of the Fire Bell Tower, located on the corner of Jefferson and Tyler streets. It’s a significant historic site for the city, hence the restorations over the years. But, for me, it’s a memorial to my childhood. I rode my bike past it daily while delivering the Port Angeles Evening News, frequently stopping to ponder the mysteries within and glaze at the ships navigating the Puget Sound. In the ivy caves on the cliff below, I occasionally contemplated Mary Jane with neighborhood friends, feeling safe tucked in the leafy camouflage. Now the tower is a museum piece and I’m a wee bit older, but I still feel the briny sea breeze when I think of this place.
