Bell Tower Port Townsend WA
Each time I visit Port Townsend, I take a picture of the Fire Bell Tower. It’s a significant historic site for the city, hence the numerous restorations over the years. But, for me, it’s a memorial to my childhood. I peddled past it daily while delivering the Port Angeles Evening News, often stopping to ponder the mysteries inside. I hid in the ivy caves beneath, contemplating Mary Jane with neighborhood friends clothed in leafy camouflage. Now the tower is a picture perfect museum piece and I’m older, but I still feel feel the wind on my face when I think of the tower.
