Burano Canal | Venezia, Italia

Burano is a small island in the lagoon just outside Venezia (Venice), a 30 minute boat ride from tourist central. It's a sleepy fishing village and poses a refreshing contrast to crowded and fast paced Venezia. At sunset the town square is filled with strolling old folks, teenagers and kids kicking soccer balls.

The brightly colored boats and homes bathed in the setting sun was about as photogenic a scene as one could hope for.

Traditional shuttered windows with flower pots are all the rage in Italy and Burano is no exception:

I hung around for a few hours and ate dinner in a quaint sidewalk cafe. I can't say the food was good—was terrible—but the wine flowed freely and I left a happy albeit rather sedated man. Burano's main plaza at twlight.
