Titian's Assumption of the Virgin | Venice, Italy

The Assumption of the Virgin was painted in 1518 by Titian (Tiziano Vecelli) and installed in the Basilica di Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari, usually just called the Frari. My family name, Frary, may be of Italian origin and was often spelled Frari, meaning brotherhood. I was surprised to find a church, plaza and bridge bearing my namesake.

The Campo dei Frari is a humble plaza with cafes and rustic villas.
