Pearl Harbor View | Leeward Community | Oahu, Hawaii

The view of Pearl Harbor is stunning from from Leeward Community College. These scenes are from the second floor and lower parking lot!

When I started work at Leeward CC in 1979 it was smack in the middle of miles of sugar cane. Now the harbor view—covered with watercress, pig pens and fighting cocks—is the only remaining "country." The mothballed battleships do a great job keeping this rustic scene as it has been for the past 50 years. If I step outside my classroom and stay still for a moment, I can hear whispers of eucalyptus trees, a choir of distant fighting cocks and catch the scent of pig on the breeze.
