Pro Arté Composites Classical Guitar Strings
Composites are made
with a unique combination of materials designed to enhance longevity
and pitch stability. D'Addario estimates they
last 2 to 3 times longer than traditional strings. My experience
is the tone stays "fresh" about twice as long as traditional nylon
strings.
D'Addario
Arté Composite Classical Guitar Strings feature
polymer core, silver-plated wrapped bass strings and nylon trebles.
Both nylon and polymer G strings included. Personally I prefer
the slightly brighter tone of the polymer G string, but in case
you don't, D'Addario has you covered.
Unlike traditional nylon strings,
the polymer based 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th strings only require a
few cranks to arrive at pitch, so listen carefully when installing.
They also stretch much less. The 1st and 2nd strings are standard
nylon and require the usual dozen cranks to come to pitch.

EJ46C (hard tension) gauges: .029, .033, .037, .029, .036, .046

D'Addario
Extended Play Pro Arté Classical Guitar Strings
Extended Play strings are
similar in design and materials to the Composites
described above. What's the difference? The bass strings
are coated to further enhance longevity. D'Addario estimates
they last 3 to 4 times longer
than traditional
strings.
So
why even bother with Composites when Extended Play last
longer? That's
a question only you can
answer, but I have a few thoughts. Composites ship
with both a polymer and nylon G string while the Extended
Play only have the standard G. I greatly prefer the
polymer G. Also, there is a slight difference in tone.
The Extended Play
are
mellower
while the Composites have a little more bite. In other
words
the coating makes Extended Play sound slightly
played in. Finally, the coating does little to defeat
the wear of frets against the string. A heavy touch
will grind through the string just as fast, coating
or no coating. However if you have a light left hand,
these basses will really last. Finally, if you have
sweaty tone killing mitts, the coating does make a major
different in tone life.
Here's how the coating
enhances bass string life: An
ultra-fine layer of EXP coating is bonded to silver-plated
wire which is then wound onto the polymer core. The
result is a built-in barrier against corrosion.
And since the EXP coating is added to the wrap wire
prior to winding, the strings sound
fresh and bright longer. New-string tone lasts 3 to
4 times longer
than traditional guitar strings.
