Muckin' 'round the garden and snagged a Monarch butterfly doing what they do. Monarchs are with us all year round on Oahu and don't migrate.

This Monarch has seen better days and wears the holes and rips in his wings with pride. Monarchs usually feed with wings folded upright or slowly opening and closing. He's not feeding here and I suspect the wide open posture is to attract other Monarchs. As soon as another of his kind flutters by he launches himself skyward and they do a little love dance.
