Church of Our Lady (Onze-Lieve-Vrouwekerk) • Brugge, Belgium

I don't have a clue about the statue but he made a jim-dandy foreground counterpoint for the Church of Our Lady. He looks like Sir Walter Raleigh's lost Burgundian cousin, Haans. This church dates from the 13th century, but has a number of later renovations layered over the original.

The chapel in the southern aisle of the Church of Our Lady holds an exquisite marble sculpture of Michelangelo's Madonna and Child, circa 1504. Apparently one of the few Michelangelo pieces to leave Italy.
