Ceiling Detail from San Maria Maggiore • Roma, Italia

San Maria Maggiore was huge. Mammoth. Well, not as huge as the Pantheon or St. Peter's but way larger than my little 17 mm lens could take in. The only optic able to challenge this theological vista is a fisheye, and I wasn't packin' one. In hindsight I should have brought an EOS 5D and 16-35 2.8L USM. But details like this ceiling mural are nice and make for great computer wallpaper. Sure beats the fake ones in Vegas!

Incidentally, viewing and photographing these beauties makes for a sore neck.
